Mi Escuelita: A place to Heal
|
Mi Escuelita is a Therapeutic Preschool for children from ages 3-5 that have experienced or been exposed to Domestic Violence. During my Interview at Mi Escuelita, I was able to interact with the kids enrolled at the school and to my surprise they were more social and loving than I expected, and I think it is absolutely beautiful to see how even through those hardships they are able to smile and socialize. In my opinion what the Staff at Mi Escuelita are doing for those kids is amazing, not only do the kids grow in an environment where they can relate to the kids they socialize with, but every now and then they are each given the time to have conversations with the therapist(s) in their classroom. Little Kids can sometimes throw tantrums and cry or get angry and it is hard for them to know and understand what they're feeling, This is where the therapists come in role- Through therapy they are taught to understand and figure out why they are feeling and behaving a certain way; Therapy also informs the therapists about what is happening in the kids daily lives to make sure they are not being affected by domestic Violence again.
I am very excited and happy to be given the opportunity to be part of this preschool and help the kids grow. I am interested in doing a project on their brain health and how being exposed to domestic violence has affected their academic or personal lives.

The reason why I chose an image of The Super Dentists is because I am interested in following this medical path of being a Dentist, more especifically a Orthodontist, or a maxillofacial surgeon.
I am looking forward to interning at any dentist office or hospital, because I want to know if this is actually what I want to pursue in the future and I believe that is an excellent opportunity to experience this before college in order to make sure this is the right thing for me.
I aspire to be hardworking and come to my internship with an open mindset about how the environment in the medical field is and what skills are required within it.
